This sunday, i decided to embark on a trip to stonehenge in wiltshire. Za was very thoughtful enough to invite me with her friend Liang from mainland China. We're supposed to head for stonehenge, wiltshire town and avebury, which has bits and pieces of stone as well. I was reminded that the trip will a 'rocky' one. We got on the bus at 9 at bessenden place near victoria station. The bas was full of students i guess since this trip is organized by STA. A international atmosphere i should say.
Anyway we're arrived at the stonehenge, english heritage area at 11 am and we're supposed to get to the bus at 12am. Such a short time to gaze upon the seven wonders of the world. It was breathtaking moment altough the temperature nearly took my life as well.It stood in front of me like I had watched it in the tele. Stood still, arranged in manner that it makes u thinking how did the people at that time, get the rocks up there. Probably it was a fine piece of engineering or was it a something else? The stones were already 5000 years old, they were created long before the pyramids. It was supposed to be a religious site long ago and they as a calendar as well, cool huh? 2 in 1. They were humps of land or so they called burrows which was told to be the ancient burial sites. I was told that the number of crowd I was at, was acceptable, it will be packed in the summer.
After that, we when to the town in wiltshire which is about 20 mins from stonehenge, it was nice little town with friendly people. I prayed near the car park, since they is no comfortable places. We took a lot of pictures, and blabbering all they way until 2pm.
We reached avebury at 2.30 pm, it was told that they have the same sites as in stonehenge, but with smaller pieces of rock arranged in a circular manner. Close to the site, its a farm called avebury manor which was known to be there since the 1500. They were small cottages and churches, and small building with wheatstalks roof. It was simply breathtaking, and I was amazed at the place. It was a place for stress relief i tell u. We took a lot of photos here and there, and we got back at 4pm. It was an enjoyable trip. Can't wait to have a similar one again.
